We are delighted to welcome you, our members from all around Scotland and many other countries across the globe, who continue to join our community!

Chapter President, Professor Brendan McCormack welcomes  you to Omega Xi. "Since our official Chartering Ceremony in 2019, the  Omega Xi Chapter Team has been working to develop the  reach  and membership of the Chapter in order to establish a strong  membership base that will support learning, practice and research  development opportunities for our members. Over the past eighteen months our Chapter, like all others around the globe has been impacted heavily by the Covid-19 pandemic. None of us could have predicted back in March 2020 what we would be facing into or indeed for how long.
As I write this welcome message as your new President of the Omega XI   Chapter, I am very conscious that we still have a long way to go in building a new context that   includes the coronavirus as something we must learn to live with.  The Covid pandemic, whilst extremely challenging and confronting for nurses around the world, also brought out the best in everything that is nursing.  We have witnessed exciting developments in the building (at scale) of online communities and networks.  It has been a privilege to be a part of the Omega XI Chapter and the Sigma global community in contributing to making that happen.  We acknowledge the contributions made by our members who have shared experiences of practice during the pandemic, thank you.  Of course, we will be delighted to continue to   receive news and stories from your area that we can share on our Chapter website and newsletter, as we grow our new programme of activities. We encourage you to engage with us in building an exciting and relevant programme of work that is genuinely co-produced.   We are keen to profile nursing excellence in all its forms, especially practices that are advancing our knowledge, skills, and expertise in person-centredness.  We encourage you to engage in our discussion area on the Chapter website, and to contribute to what we hope will be lively and interesting conversations.  The discussion area is for everyone to use as you can ask questions, start a debate, gain a new or different perspective and exchange learning and practice information.  So please visit regularly and we do hope to hear from you soon!"

Kind regards

Brendan

The Omega Xi Chapter Triskelion
The Omega Xi Chapter has adopted an archaic triple spiral Celtic symbol known as the Triskelion.  The Celtic Triskelion is thought by some to symbolise water, fire and earth; the forces of nature. The single continuous line represents our oneness and unity. This speaks to us as we seek to represent Being, Doing and Becoming as core to our Nursing values at Queen Margaret University (QMU). We have chosen this symbol to show: we accept the ancient roots of nursing, acknowledging that many have been and gone and influenced nursing and that we follow on. We do not want to misrepresent the past, and it is impossible to represent the diversities in nursing in the present and future. A key part of our strategy is our commitment to supporting the learning and professional development of our undergraduate and post graduate nurses, aligning closely with the mission and goals of the community of Sigma.  Our commitment to the philosophies and consistent delivery of Person-centred Practice in nursing will, we believe, help to improve and enhance nursing care in our communities.
